LNER poster, by Andrew Johnson c. 1925 (806 x 635 mm) An art critic reviewing Johnson's work stated that he "was an agreeable landscape painter, expertly rendering the scenic views he was entrusted with. When he focused on individuals - as in this image for the LNER's service to North Berwick - he was an exceedingly effective posterist."
LMS poster by Norman Wilkinson (1878-1957) c. 1930 (806 x 635 mm). Maritime artist and poster designer for the LMS railway. He organised the Royal Academy series of posters for the LMS in 1924. He also designed posters for the London & NW railway and SR as in this design here of Gleneagles.
Another one by Tom Purvis (1888 - 1957). The graphic style of tom purvis relies on dramatic simplification and bold cut-out blocks of colour. This was a style perfectly suited to the large-scale advertising images used by railway companies and seaside resorts - being relatively cheap and eye-catching. (806 x 635 mm).
